An editor and co-founder with Ricochet, Ethan was the 2021 Michener-Deacon Investigative Fellow, and was named on the 2024 Canadian Hillman Prize for his work as an editor/producer. His writing has appeared in many national and international outlets, and he has won a number of national awards for investigative journalism. Most recently, he won Gold in the "Scoop" category at the 2026 Canadian Association of Journalists' awards, one of four national awards won by Ricochet in 2026. He is also an expert on press freedom issues, serving as a subject matter expert to the B.C. Human Rights Commissioner, helping lead a successful multi-outlet coalition that beat the RCMP in court over media access in 2021 and being the named party in a groundbreaking 2025 oversight report that led the police force to formally apologize to him. Ethan is also a former radio and television pundit in Montreal and a board member with the charity For the Refugees.
