Today, Feb. 28, is a national day of action against this proposal for internet censorship in Canada. Open Media and allies including digital rights groups, library associations, independent internet service providers and civil liberties organizations are asking Canadians to sign a petition, spread the word and make a submission to the CRTC.

Ricochet has decided to join organizations such as the Canadian Civil Liberties Association and Canadian Journalists for Free Expression in endorsing this defence of an open internet.

As a media outlet, we don’t engage in much campaigning — but this issue, which strikes at access to information and other core elements of a free press in the digital age, demands that journalists raise their voices.
