Hi, I’m Zahra, Ricochet Media’s newest team member, and yes, I’m a real person (not a chatbot). I’ve joined through the JHR’s BIPOC Youth Journalism Training Fellowship. It’s an honour to be working with this small but fearless newsroom where every story is intentional, people-powered and grounded in care.
My first brush with Ricochet was during the last federal election. I produced the live coverage in partnership with Canada’s National Observer and was blown away by the sharp, engaged audience who tuned in on Twitter/X. That night, I saw how Ricochet punches above its weight in a news ecosystem increasingly flooded with misinformation and AI-generated sludge.

This summer, I’m investigating an anonymous website that doxxes activists, mostly from racialized and marginalized communities, putting their safety and futures at risk. I want to understand who’s behind it and how powerful, well-funded actors get away with coordinated harassment. It’s the kind of hard-hitting, people-first journalism Ricochet was made for.
And here’s the thing: we do it without the shortcuts. No bots. No AI. Just real journalists doing the work: asking questions, chasing leads and holding power to account. Because that’s what you deserve.
But we can’t do it without your support.
If you believe in journalism that pushes back against billionaires, bots and bullies, please donate today. Every dollar helps keep real people doing real reporting.
Let’s keep taking on the big guys together.
